Bill Clinton To Give Nominating Address at #DNC2012

by: Oreo

Mon Jul 30, 2012 at 17:14:50 PM EDT

CHARLOTTE – The Democratic National Convention Committee and the Obama for America Campaign today announced that Vice President Joe Biden will deliver remarks at the 2012 Democratic National Convention on Thursday, September 6, and that former President William Jefferson Clinton will deliver the nominating speech on Wednesday, September 5. Biden’s remarks will be made at the Bank of America stadium; Clinton’s will be delivered at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

In holding both acceptance speeches Thursday, convention planners are returning to a long-standing convention tradition that was suspended in 1996 which slated both the Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees to speak on the final night of the convention.

“As the President’s partner, Vice President Biden is uniquely positioned to talk about the tough decisions the President has made over the last four years to rebuild the economy after the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and strengthen our national security.   He’ll give a first-hand testament to the President’s focus on doing what is right for the country, not what is politically popular,” said 2012 Democratic Convention Chair, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. “And as one of the administration’s greatest champions of the middle class, Vice President Biden will talk specifically about what he and the President have done to create an economy built to last, by growing the economy from the middle out, not the top down, and giving voice to millions of hardworking Americans who want a fair shake and everyone to play by the same set of rules as we continue to recover from this devastating recession.”

Clinton’s nominating speech on Wednesday will not only set the stage for the acceptance speeches from Biden and President Barack Obama but also lay out the critical choice in this election between continuing to move forward toward a strong economy or going back to the same policies that lead to the economic crisis.

“President Clinton oversaw the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, pursuing many of the same policies that President Obama is proposing and implementing today.  That economic progress was squandered in the following decade by a set of decisions that exploded our deficit, crashed our economy, and hurt the middle class,” continued Villaraigosa.  “So, there is no one better to lay out the choice in this election between moving forward with President Obama or falling backward with Mitt Romney, who supports the same failed policies that led to the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.”

The DNCC will unveil additional convention program details and speakers in the coming weeks. The first two days of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Tuesday, September 4, and Wednesday, September 5, will be held at Time Warner Cable Arena. The final night of the convention, Thursday, September 6, will be held at Bank of America Stadium.
