| Earlier today, I wrote about how the GOP had gotten our voter registration booth closed yesterday. A number of things have happened since. Locally, Cheryl and I have let EVERYONE know...and we're hoping that this gets people to walk their neighborhoods and check that people are properly registered, get them registered if they're not, and provide absentee ballot applications and Voter ID information. As an aside, if you're willing to make calls to check for registration in PA, let me know and I can get you hooked up: we need all the help we can get! Also, there is a chance we'll have an opportunity to have a booth one day early next month. It would just be one day, and in an alternate location, but we're hopeful. I spoke with the local paper. In the final analysis, the reporter spoke with one of the shopkeepers, who claimed that he had spoken to us "multiple times" about "problems". This was a complete fabrication, but we believe that he was pressured into saying what he did. I spoke with a reporter at Huff Post who is expecting some more specific information from me on people who were marked "inactive" by Voter Services for no reason, and will be looking into voter suppression in Pennsylvania. Cheryl contacted a number of elected and party officials, and we now have some leads for people at the Philly papers who might be willing to speak with us. Finally, it appears that Carol Aichele's "Well if going to the Driver's License Center is so difficult for her than maybe she isn't well enough to be voting" comment may well be getting public play in an unexpected way. (Don't ask, you'll know if it happens...) |
