Bush still making nominations

by: Matt

Sat Jan 10, 2009 at 15:00:00 PM EST

When the 100th Congress ended, all of Bush's pending nominations died also. Someone then asked, will he make them again? I responded, "that would be a good waste of paper".

Well, Bush has made a new nomination: (First time I've ever linked to the White House. Luckily, we'll be doing more of this in a couple of weeks!)

Stuart Gordon Nash, of the District of Columbia, to be an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for the term of fifteen years, vice Rufus Gunn King, III, retired.

If anybody can find anything about Mr. Nash, please let us know. It would not surprise me if there was a previous agreement to allow this one nomination through, but it would be interesting to find out. One other thing. This nomination is going through the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. That would be Lieberman's committee. Hmmmmmmmmm.

He served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia from 1997 to 2004 and spent three years at Williams & Connolly LLP. He is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School and clerked for Judge Sam J. Ervin, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and Judge T. S. Ellis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

It may not be controversial (0.00 / 0)
Looks like he chose from 1 of 3 choices sent to him by the District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission. And the position is not in the Plum Book, so it must be under some special rules.

Nash is in an email at the WSJ site about the DOJ attorney mess, but I can't deduce what it means.

But in which Margaret Chiara, one of the ousted attorneys, sounds like the Boss from hell.

I'm not able to find much about any of them except this blurb:

If there's a DC attorney lurking around, maybe they can say something concrete.

(Why the heck are people appointed for fifteen years?)

Oops, I see Leah already posted the dcbar link.
