| If St. Louis is the frontrunner to host the 2012 Democratic Convention, Charlotte is right behind: Charlotte city leaders hope the Nascar Hall of Fame and the Convention Center will help them win the 2012 Democratic National Convention. ... Mayor Anthony Foxx says the initial paperwork gives convention leaders a technical assessment of things like Charlotte's hotel and convention space, transportation and security.
In years past, some have questioned whether the cost of bringing the DNC to Charlotte would outweigh its benefit.
But Mayor Foxx said, "I don't think we would go through the entire process to the conclusion if we didn't believe there was a positive economic impact on the city."
City leaders have until next Friday to submit their bid to the DNC.
After the DNC narrows down their short list of potential cities they will visit each city and request additional information.
You can see a video news report on Charlotte's bid here. Charlotte's Facebook group is here. With a bid deadline of May 21, hopefully we will know soon after that which cities are actually bidding for the convention.
