And this: Any afternoon rush hour in the Chicago area on primary day was confined to the streets and did not appear to extend to polling places.
Election officials said voter turnout was poor from the get-go today and didn't appear to get much better as the 7 p.m. poll closing time approached.
At the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners there was worry that turnout could rival the city's record low of just under 25 percent hit in 1958, another year when the economy was in a swoon. |
