The GOP just can't help lying

by: DocJess

A couple days ago, we showed you some signs detailing the grasp the Republicans have on spelling. Some of you might have thought this was just a few of them, but it seems the problems with the English language are inherent when one is a Republican. It's that commitment to education and all that...Think I'm joking? Below is the front page of the new GOP web site - I helped by pointing out the error:

And if that were the only error, it would just be funny. But no, the IIE had to go all out and lie about all sorts of things. Starting with Jackie Robinson. Certainly you know who Jackie Robinson was, and he was a hero, in very many ways.

It's also true that he supported Richard Nixon in 1959, and Nelson Rockefeller in 1964. But, as his autobiography states, he was always a registered independent.

Even worse for the GOP is that Jackie Robinson attended the 1964 Republican convention.

In his own words

That convention was one of the most unforgettable and frightening experiences of my life. The hatred I saw was unique to me because it was hatred directed against a white man. It embodied a revulsion for all he stood for, including his enlightened attitude towards black people.

A new breed of Republicans had taken over the GOP. As I watched this steamroller operation in San Francisco, I had a better understanding of how it must have felt to be a Jew in Hitler’s Germany.

The "white man" to whom he refers was Nelson Rockefeller. Who, along with Barry Goldwater, would not recognize their party today if either returned from the dead. Imagine if Jackie Robinson had been at the convention last year, when he would have brought the total number of black attendees to 38. Out of thousands.

Update from Oreo: I found another gem yesterday. The GOP lists Frederick Douglass as one of their heroes. I found the following quotes from Douglass.

"Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe."

"The white man's happiness cannot be purchased by the black man's misery."

"I recognize the Republican party as the sheet anchor of the colored man's political hopes and the ark of his safety."

If Lincoln and Douglass were alive today they would be Democrats. The Republican party of today, in the immortal words of Kanye West, don't care about black people.

A small point (0.00 / 0)
I agree with the majority of your post, but the title you circled actually is grammatically correct, sort of. "Republican Faces" is a web page within their site. So it's a singular thing, and the verb should work accordingly.

It's just like the sentence "Star Wars uses lots of special effects."

I might quibble a little with not making that more clear by the use of punctuation, such as quotation marks--not having that is what makes it look weird.

Yes, but... (0.00 / 0)
They're not ACTUALLY "Republican Faces" -- at least not Jackie Robinson.

When I saw it, my immediate thought was a giant mob of tea baggers with their idiot signage, all standing around, seeking a leader. And the mantra "We needs you, we wants you, come helps us"......Can't you just SEE IT in your mind's eye?
