| Yesterday, Oreo reported that John Ensign's parents paid almost $100,000 to his mistress and her family. We now have confirmation on this from none other than John Ensign himself, who issued a statement. But possibly the most interesting thing about this whole imbroglio came on Rachel Maddow's show last night, when she interviewed Jeff Sharlet, Harper's editor, and author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power. People have been talking about the house on C Street where Ensign lives in DC, along with a rotating crew of other Senators and Reps - including Tom Coburn, who may or may not have had some input into the letter Ensign wrote. But it appears that the C Street house is not just a bunch of right wing hypocrites Republicans, but is run by a secret society called "The Family." Watch the video -- The eye-popping part relates how certain "chosen" Christians are ALLOWED to do things like rape. Also that the "true" message of Christianity is that rich white guys should rule the world. It's incredibly disconcerting. |
