by: Oreo

Wed Dec 17, 2008 at 15:14:57 PM EST

WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, today announced the program for the 56th Presidential Inauguration, which will take place on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol on January 20, 2009.

"I am delighted to announce this superb line-up of participants in the 2009 inaugural ceremonies," said Senator Feinstein. The Inauguration (0.00 / 0)
Oh dear, I have to say, this looks like a pretty uninspired Inaugural, especially with Rick Warren doing the Invocation....?

not too crazy about her actual poetry, (0.00 / 0)
she is one of those well educated and well trained poets who knows the "right subjects" but i do not find most of her stuff enjoyable to read on any level, but by comparison to the Rick Warren choice, she looks like Maya Angelou!

i heard her on npr the other day, and she sounds like a nice enough lady, and maybe he wants to stay away from the really powerful stuff because it is too "soulful" for his "mainstreaming."

i love aretha, but then i am a white guy and she appeals to us white guys, not to trash her soul creds, but it is easier to hold her in your mind with belushi than king or malcolm...

Warren Urges Followers To Emulate Hitler Youth (0.00 / 0)
Well this is pretty scary.

.

Whatever you think of Rick Warren... (0.00 / 0)
...I find this YouTube video reprehensible. There's clearly a rhetorical build-up going on, where Warren chooses Hitler, Lenin, and Mao, and then is about to make some sort of contrast to what he's proposing. But, of course, the actual proposal is edited out.

I might have agreed with whatever the vision was. I might not have. But to characterize this as asking his followers to emulate Hitler Youth is not fair.

I don't know what was edited out.
I found the post over on DU earlier this evening:

Although some of his words are missing he still sounds like a cult leader/cult leader wanna be.

both points are valid (0.00 / 0)
the youtube edit is unfair, as much on youtube and on partisan websites is, no matter the side, but the concept of suggesting that christian youth should follow jesus like the hitler youth followed jesus, or the russians or chinese followed stalin or mao, raises a legitimate point.

do we really want a guy like this on the platform with obama? i think he is scary, but he is scary in the jovial slap-you-on-the-back-while-he-spreads-evil-in-the-name-of-god way that jerry farwell mastered.

most anti evangelicals only knew jerry after he became a media darling with his outrageous pronouncements against everything gay, from tinky winky to disney world, but he was very rick warrenish on a personal level (i knew him) which made him more effective, and thus more scary.

if one thinks children should follow jesus blindly, then they are probably planning to exploit that blind faith.....
