Monday Morning Briefs

by: DocJess

Mon Jul 06, 2009 at 04:50:27 AM EDT

Friday morning, I had some oral surgery. It hurt A LOT, and for most of the weekend, I would wake up briefly for some reason, like to get a new ice pack, or for some medication.

I slept through Sarah Palin's announcement. Talk about real pain.

My sole comment is that there was once someone in public life who was a real wing-nut (think McCarthyism) had ethics problems (think clothing and animals), ran for national office and lost, went home, licked his wounds, and eight years later became the 37th president of the United States. Don't count her out. Like Marion Barry: DC mayor, ex-felon (cocaine), City Council member, and now accused stalker

Next, I missed that the economically broke city of Los Angeles is paying millions on millions for the Michael Jackson memorial service. 1.6 million people put their names in for the lottery. Imagine if it had cost $2 to put one's name in. I'm betting everyone would have paid. If Visa/Master Card had waived the processing fees, it would have covered the cost of LA police, fire, etc. I'm just saying. Then again, California is thinking of televising the budget negotiations.

Last night, the bankruptcy court allowed GM to sell its viable assets to the new company (that's us, the car company owners). Imagine if they actually let us stockholders vote on executive pay...

Finally, officially reported H1N1 cases will likely hit 100,000 today or tomorrow. The US has fallen from about 50% of the cases to about a third of the cases as flu takes hold in those areas currently experiencing winter seasonal flu infestation, although the majority are H1N1.

My ice pack and I are going back to bed now. See y'all tomorrow....

I hope you will be feeling better soon - keep the meds handy and the ice - write down when you take your meds on a piece of paper so that you don't over medicate  ;)

According to TMZ.com and other news folks: The Jackson family was going to charge $25 per person in order to cover the expenses of the stadium, police, security, sanitation, etc. but there was an uproar about them charging people for a memorial service so they came out and said that everyone could attend for 'free'.  They are grieving at this point in time and not thinking straight, but I wish someone would have said: "Hey, tickets are free but please DONATE at the door in order to help with expenses." - no one thought of that or at least said that.  Some Californian politician did come out on TV and said that the cost of the police service is covered in their budget which budgets in 'unexpected events' - just not the information system (whatever that is), sanitation, fire personnel, and EMS.

Thanks -- I hadn't known about the charges -- that's interesting.

As for the meds -- although I am NOT a fan of antibiotics, I promise not to overdo them -- I HATE taking them unless absolutely necessary, and this is one of those cases. So I get up, take one because my iPhone alarm goes off, sit up for 20 minutes to make sure it stays down, and then call it quits. Since Friday, I took 3 "actual" painkillers -- and I'm very grateful for them -- the rest are all homeopathic, so I can't OD on them.

About charging... (0.00 / 0)
Here's an excerpt from RadarOnline.com from July 3rd:

After nearly a day of family members arguing, the Jackson family has dropped their plan to charge the public $25 to attend a memorial service for Michael Jackson at Staples Center.

RadarOnline.com broke the news of the family's plan to charge the public and many fans were outraged. The family was not going to announce they were charging for several more days. Backed into a corner by the bad publicity, family members had heated closed door discussions and many arguments on Thursday. They blamed a close family associate for leaking the news and decided the only way they could save face with fans was to drop the plan to charge.

ABC News says... (0.00 / 0)
That Michael Jackson might be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Monday (BEFORE the Staples Center Memorial). Others buried there are Bette Davis, Gene Autrey, Nat King Cole, Clark Gable, and Lucille Ball.

The cost for the 2,500 policemen for memorial at the Staple Center area will be 2.5 million dollars.

A few more tidbits of interest:

1)  Reports say that all 'five' major networks will be airing coverage of the Michael Jackson memorial 'all day' on Tuesday.

2)  This is a bit gross but it has been leaked from inside sources that Michael will be buried WITHOUT his 'brain' (just like JFK).   They are saying that in order to do complete testing they need to dry out the brain for 3 weeks before they can do cross-slicing for the intricate testing that needs to be done.  The family was told of this and they opted to have a burial now as opposed to waiting for three weeks.  http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dp...

3) Michael will be laid to rest in

a $25,000, solid bronze, 14-karat gold plated, custom casket.  Ordered from Batesville Casket Company - it is called a Promethean and will feature a flame blue velvet interior and a hand-polished, mirror finish. This is the same casket used to bury James Brown... and is extremely rare.
