Palin to step down as Governor in late July

by: Matt

Fri Jul 03, 2009 at 15:34:17 PM EDT

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) has told associates she will not be running for re-election. Details to follow.

There are also rumors on the net that she may be stepping down in a few weeks. This is very unconfirmed.

Update 3:30: Alaska's KTVA says on their website:

WASILLA, Alaska - At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued, saying that by the end of the month she would resign from the governorship.

Nothing on the national news networks or news sites confirming the upcoming resignation.

Update 3:32: CNN is now saying she IS stepping down.

Update 3:42: KTUU-TV:

Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.

There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

By the end of July (4.00 / 1)
The comment I found humorous:

"She thinks she has accomplished goals she has set forward," a source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said. "She sees what a positive influence she has had on people's lives from traveling the country in the last year."

Denial and ignorance to the end.

So in 2 years as Gov, and most of that out of the State not doing State business, she has accomplished all she wanted to do for Alaska. Interesting. Ha Ha!

Something else is up. (4.00 / 1)
To resign now in 2009 for the 2012 election?????????
She was governor when she ran for VP.  Not running is one thing but resigning is another ballpark.
The election for governor is in 2010.  Why resign early?
I do not like the woman to put it mildly.  Something else is up.

Running for Senate? (0.00 / 0)
Murkowski is up next year.

All governors are Lame Ducks. (0.00 / 0)
I don't think she made any new friends and perhaps lost some.
Dear Sarah today.

"People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska," said Governor Palin. "Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine."

"I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path," said Governor Palin after the announcement. "Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional 'Lame Duck' status in this particular climate would just be another dose of 'politics as usual,' something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success. I look forward to helping others - to fight for our state and our country, and campaign for those who believe in smaller government, free enterprise, strong national security, support for our troops, and energy independence."

OK (4.00 / 1)
Rumor is Embezzlement from when the sports center was built in her town and her house has the same windows, doors etc.
Just a rumor that says the Feds will be knocking on the door very soon.

I had a feeling (4.00 / 1)
that it would be either her house issue or something about oil.
I remember during the campaign the issue of the house came up but the MSM didn't cover it like some of the blogs did.

I wonder if the indictments will come down before or after July 25th when she resigns - of course that is 'if the newest rumor' is true.

Conspirancy Theories and Speculation are FUN (0.00 / 0)
Okay, let's put a couple of the past few days stories together and see what we hit on.

First we have Republican Governor Sanford announce not only did he have an affair with the woman from Argentina, but he also had inappropriate relationships with other women, but didn't cross over the sexual line with them.

Second we have Republican Governor Palin mysteriously announce that she was stepping down before the end of the month.

Could it be that Sanford and Palin were hooking up at those Republican Governor Conventions? Hum.... ;o)

When was the last time she was in Argentina?

(CNN) -- The FBI, in a rare response to rampant rumors on the Internet, said it is not investigating Alaska Gov. Sara Palin on public corruption charges.
Alaska's Sarah Palin is stepping down as governor at the end of the month.

"Normally, we don't confirm or deny those kind of allegations out there. But, by not doing so, it just casts her in a very bad light," said FBI Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, who confirmed for CNN the statement he made to the Anchorage Daily News. "There is just no truth to those rumors out there in the blogosphere."

hope this doesnt violate fairuse, please feel free to read the full article at:

BUT (0.00 / 0)
the rumor was that there was a 'criminal investigation' - and no one said 'originally' that it was the FBI.
Perhaps it was being conducted but some other entity like the DOJ, or Attorney General or someone else   ;)

[ Parent ]
yeah, i thought about that, but (0.00 / 0)
it seems unlikely that the fbi would go to this unusual step if there was another investigation, unless they didnt know about it, which is scarier:)

if she really did drop out just to run, that is crazier than doing it because of scandal, but then, she is nuttier than a pecan tree!

Logic (4.00 / 1)
Let's think basic.  In my opinion Palin is as basic as they come.
With her Book Deal and Her Speech's she will be making multi-millions in one year if she is totally focused on it.
When I say focused I mean she only has to show up to the event, I do not expect more from her (or her followers):)
She will be neck deep in press and even if she shoots herself in the foot the money will still be there and  GROW from her mishaps.  It is all about money.
She will always cry victim and not be responsible for the WRONGS that are continuously heaped upon her.
IF SHE LEARNS how to step out of the pooh she continuously steps into; there is a possibility of her running in 2012.
Let's go back to the BASIC COMMENT, I think she is going to hit an artery and bleed to death. Metaphorically speaking.  I wish her no ill will, she can implode as much as she wants to :)

no ill will (0.00 / 0)
Let's hope the kids are okay.
