Polling Update: NY-Gov, NH-Sen, MA-Gov, NJ-Gov

by: Matt

Tue Jun 30, 2009 at 23:25:57 PM EDT

Now that we have officially, and finally, closed the books on the 2008 election, we take a look at a wave of polls that came out today on the 2009 and 2010 elections:

NY-Gov:

Democratic primary:
69% Cuomo, 24% Paterson

Republican Primary
77% Giuliani, 16% Lazio

General Election
54% Giuliani, 37% Paterson
41% Paterson, 40% Lazio
68% Cuomo, 22% Lazio
51% Cuomo, 43% Giulian -Marist

Lazio losing to Paterson? New Yorkers really don't like RIck Lazio.

NH-Sen
Paul Hodes (D) 40%, John Sununu (R) 34% -ARG

Is Sununu even running?

MA-Gov
Mihos 41%, Patrick 40%
Patrick 41%, Baker 36% -Rasmussen

Patrick has hired David Plouffe to run his re-election campaign. I hear Plouffe has had some success recently.

NJ-Gov
Christie 51%, Corzine 41% -PPP

Corzine's highest polling number this year.

Paterson (0.00 / 0)
This from yesterday's New York State Senate (source: Daily News):

Senate Democrats Tuesday passed more than 120 bills after they say a veteran Republican lawmaker gave them a quorum by briefly cutting through the chamber in search of a drink

The insanity in the New York State Senate gives Paterson a chance to look like a grown-up and improve his ratings somewhat. We'll see if he can manage it.

1776 (0.00 / 0)

As we are on the eve of the Second of July, the shenanigans of the New York Legislature reminds me of the musical "1776" about the adoption of the Virginia Resolution on Independence and the drafting of the accompanying Declaration.

At one point in the musical, the delegation from New York is asked why they abstain on every motion (New York being the one state that abstained on the Resolution of Independence).  In response, the delegation explains how the New York legislature acts (or more precisely fails to act) and thus why they are unable to get instructions on anything.

230+ years later, it seems like nothing has changed.
