What Sanford Means for the GOP/IIE

Notice the party affiliation. As Kos says "Every (*^#) time." He also says it's not an accident, and I agree.

But think about it: Sanford can now give up any hope of a 2012 presidential run. As can Bobby Jindal who imploded on national TV responding to President Obama's first speech. Along with John Ensign, philanderer and potential ethics violator. Huntsman? Off to China. Palin? Still paying off her ethics problems. Pawlenty? Can't seem to sign his name on the "Senator Franken" page. Newt? Called soon-to-be-Supreme-Court-Justice Sotomayor a racist.  That will not play well with anyone who reads. Plus, he's coming out against green programs while collecting lots of money from the coal industry. Rick Perry? Once you say you want your state to secede from the Union, you don't play well on the national stage.

So that leaves....Huckabee and Romney, who are currently "winning" by virtue of remaining seriously under the radar.

But there is one more name to stick in the back of your mind. Jim Gerlach. Pennsylvania Congressman. Announced today he's not running in the PA Senatorial primary next year. Sure, he might still run for Governor, but it will be a hard slog against Tom Corbett in the primary. Meaning he'll run for re-election to Congress. He's got the determination, he's got the drive, and there's a good chance he can raise a certain amount of money. At least enough to start. Plus, he's a wing-nut in moderate clothing.

No matter how you look at it, this last "I cheated" relevation is not something that could possibly be helpful for the IIE (Idiots in Exile). Kudos to his wife, first, for being a class act and not outing him over the weekend. And second, for staying away from the press conference. There's always something so debasing about the wives in their blue suits standing alongside their husbands as they evoke faith, say they're sorry and beg forgiveness.

So, we'll see who takes over the Republican Governors' Association, and whether Sanford really feels so badly that he resigns his paying job.

palin (0.00 / 0)
I wouldn't rule out Palin.  I don't think her followers care about the ethics situation.

On some blog the other day some lunatic posted that Democratic women were jealous of Palin because she was beautiful and smart.  Anyone who thinks she's smart is sufficiently not playing with a full deck that they won't care about any criticism of her.

As to beautiful, I have never thought so.  Maybe I just can't get past the idiocy factor.

anybody else think this story would actually been more fun if a goofy gov had just walked in the woods for 5 days? (4.00 / 1)

FoxNews Apologizes (0.00 / 0)
Thursday afternoon FoxNews Apologized for putting the (D) after Sanford's name:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...

"We just want to make a correction to something we put up on the screen during our coverage of the governor's press conference yesterday. We briefly identified Governor Sanford as a Democrat. He is, of course, a Republican and we apologize for getting it wrong."

Maybe I'm reading it wrong... (0.00 / 0)
But I think they're really saying they're sorry they got caught. It is not possible that they didn't know. They cited him as a Republican back when he was saying Clinton should resign, and this year when he came out against the stimulus package.

They only "forget" when he does something slimy?

Pul-ease....
