Maloney likely to challenge Gillibrand in NY

by: Matt

Wed Jun 03, 2009 at 21:30:01 PM EDT

Looks like Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) is close to announcing a primary challenge to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY):

Several of her New York colleagues, including Reps. Jerrold Nadler and Anthony D. Weiner, said Maloney has told them she will run. She has also indicated to political allies in her “silk stocking” district on Manhattan’s Upper East Side that she is preparing a bid.

New York Assemblyman Jonathan L. Bing, whose district overlaps with Maloney’s and who shares a close working relationship with the congresswoman, said an announcement on Maloney’s Senate intentions was pending, but could not confirm a specific date.  -CQ Politics

There were rumors that Maloney would be announcing tomorrow, but while they have been denied, it certainly looks like we'll see a major primary battle in NY next year.

Rep Maloney - what a waste of everyone's time and money.  Please stay put and do not waste your seniority and responsibilities in the House.  Vanity, vanity...
