Supreme Court pick could come on Tuesday

by: Matt

Mon May 25, 2009 at 23:50:42 PM EDT

The president has narrowed his list to four, according to people close to the White House — two federal appeals judges, Sonia Sotomayor of New York and Diane P. Wood of Chicago, and two members of his administration, Solicitor General Elena Kagan and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Mr. Obama talked with his legal team on Monday, and White House aides said an announcement could come as early as Tuesday. - NY Times

Note that the source of the list of names comes from outside the White House, but the timing comes from inside the White House.

Two things about this article make me absolutely sick (0.00 / 0)
1. "I don't think that he's worried about the left. I think he's doing the same thing we did."

Damn right he's not, and I am getting tired of it. MY VOTE is not to be taken for granted, nor is my support or money for that matter.

2. "The Warren court heroically took on entrenched systems that were utterly inconsistent with constitutional equality and fairness," Mr. Dellinger said. "But that is history. It is not clear that progressive values will best be served in the future by judicial activism. Judicial power is now often used to strike down or limit progressive measures adopted by Congress or the states."

This statement is utterly assanine. Her reason for saying that there is no value in having true progressives on the bench is that Judicial power is now often used to limit peoples rights, not defend them? HELLO!!! That is exactly why we need someone with some backbone to bring the court back on the side of the people. The court is supposed to be the last line of defense for the individual when his rights are infringed upon, not the first place to take them away!!!!

anybody else feeling that 'bill clinton' feeling? (0.00 / 0)
remember in 1992, when we knew the clinton admin was about to straighten out the mess of 'conservative ideals and ideas' from the reagan bush disaster, but about 6 months into 1993, we realized he wasnt going to stand for gay rights, the american worker, or rational drug policy. he was gonna nibble around the edges, and that was better than more of the same, but only a little better? i keep telling myself that obama is different, i mean, he isa certified liberal who moves tot he middle out of pragmatism, right? but then, it seems everytime he could hit a homerun, he bunts it softly down the third base line and barely makes it to first. and to continue with the metaphor, he doesnt even seem to advance a runner!
what is it. have we been sold a bill of goods, again?

funny thing about the man (0.00 / 0)
i am doing my morning news reading and looking at our beloved president, and even though i do feel a bit betrayed ala clinton, i cant help but be proud, hopeful and a bit relived he is president. he is a half of a loaf, but he isnt the sharp stick in the eye!
